Socks are inseparable for our life, and a wide variety of socks gives us more choices. Here is a brief introduction to the material used for socks.
Combed Cotton and Carded Cotton
They are all pure cotton. Combed cotton is used to comb the fibers in a cotton fibers process, and the fibers are almost completely removed. Compared with combed cotton and combed cotton, the content of short fibers and impurities is small, and the fibers are straight and parallel. Additionally, the nylon yarn for socks is evenly dried and the surface is smooth, while the carded cotton is rough, textured, and the strip is not uniform.
Nitrile Cotton
Acrylic is a blended fiber for socks. The commonly used nitrile cotton content is 30% acrylic fibres, 70% cotton, full-feeling, and more wear-resistant than cotton. It also has the function of cotton sweat and deodorization.
Mercerized Cotton
Mercerized cotton is cotton treated by mercerizing. Due to the alkali resistance of cotton and acid resistance, after the cotton fiber is treated in a certain concentration of sodium hydroxide solution, the fiber is laterally expanded, so that the cross section is rounded, the natural rotation disappears, and the fiber exhibits a silky general luster. The stretching is further modified to a certain extent to change the internal structure of the fiber, to improve the strength of the fiber, and to have the characteristic of sweat absorption of the cotton itself, which has the advantages of better gloss, more comfortable hand feeling and relatively less wrinkling than the original cotton fiber.
Silkworm
Silk and cotton blends to be soft to touch, more sweat-absorbent than cotton, and superior in elasticity compared with the cotton.
Wool
Wool is also a kind of traditional natural fiber. It is famous for its good warmth retention. It is mainly composed of an insoluble protein. It has good elasticity, full feeling, strong moisture absorption, and good warmth. And it is not resistant to insects so that it is not easily stained. The gloss is soft and the dyeing property is excellent. Since it has a unique fluffing property, it is generally required to be subjected to shrink-proof treatment to ensure the size of the fabric. Wool is a very popular natural material for socks. Ordinary wool is not suitable for socks.
Rabbit Hair
The fiber is soft, fluffy, good in warmth, good in moisture absorption, but low in strength. Most of them are blended. The proportion of rabbit hair is about 30%.
Nitrile Hair
Acrylic fibres blended with wool, has a warm effect on wool and is more wear-resistant than wool. However it does not absorb sweat, and is often used in winter styles.
Colored Cotton
It is a natural cotton with natural colors and environmental friendliness. Because of its unique natural color, it does not require chemical treatment such as printing and dyeing in the textile processing process, so that the color is soft, natural and elegant with moisture absorption and permeability. Simultaneously, with no pollution to humans and the environment, it is a new raw material for green and healthy ecological textiles.
Polyester
Polyester is an important variety in synthetic fiber and is the trade name of polyester fiber in China. Polyester is often used to coat elastic fiber. Polyester has high strength and wear resistance, and the wrinkle resistance exceeds that of all fibers, and the fabric has good shape retention. Due to the lack of hydrophilic groups in the composition of the polyester, the moisture absorption of the fibers is small, and the moisture regain rate is 0.4% under standard conditions. Polyester has a strong light resistance, second only to polyacrylonitrile nylon filaments.
Nylon
Nylon is a kind of synthetic nylon filament. It is used to coat elastic nylon filament like polyester. It is also used as a pull frame and sometimes as a veil. It has excellent wear resistance and is the first in common textile nylon filament, but it does not absorb sweat and foot odor. If it is only used for weaving, it will not affect the performance of the socks themselves. The abrasion resistance of nylon is superior to all other fibers and it is also one of the high strength synthetic nylon filaments
Spandex
Spandex is an elastic fiber made of the polymer compound, having a linear segment structure of greater than 85% of the polyurethane. Due to the advantages unmatched by other fibers, such as light weight, high breaking strength, high elongation at break, and good elastic recovery, spandex fibers have been widely used in various fields.
Leica
Lycra elastic fiber socks are more close-fitting and feel more comfortable. Lycra elastic fiber has a unique stretch and retraction characteristics, which means that it can make the type of socks have a long-lasting fit and comfort. The socks with Lycra elastic fiber are applied to the legs and the action is completely unconstrained. Unlike most spandex nylon yarn for socks, Lycra has a special chemical structure with good ductility and recovery. It can be used for knitting or woven to make the garment fit and not deform easily.
In summary, it is a brief introduction to all the materials that may be used in making socks and I hope it is helpful for you.
